LOS ANGELES--()--Representatives from the Southern California Leadership Council and the Southwest Defense Alliance are available to discuss the results of a joint study showing the impacts on California of the sequestration mandated cuts.
“The Economic Impact of National Defense Sequestration on the Southwest Region”
Among the findings:
- State will lose 336,000 defense-related jobs and $21 billion in economic output due to the combination of previously mandated defense cuts ($7 billion) and the new sequestration cuts ($4 billion).
- From 2005 through 2009 an average of one million jobs were tied to national defense spending in California – more jobs than in the entire Silicon Valley. Over that period $600 billion in increased economic output was generated plus $12 billion in cumulative state taxes.
