MEMPHIS, Tenn.--()--Catholic schools have a clear mission to do God’s work while developing their students’ commitment to service. However, community service can be overwhelming in large schools where administrators manage hundreds of students and thousands of volunteer hours. St. Agnes Academy—a large Catholic school in Memphis--found a perfect solution to the paperwork nightmare by relying on x2VOL to make doing God’s work a whole lot easier.
“We have always been a technologically progressive school but we were stuck in a manual system that was cumbersome and time-consuming”
x2VOL manages, logs, tracks, and provides reports on the over 10,000 community service hours given by students each year at St. Agnes Academy. With x2VOL, students can schedule their hours, secure administrator approval and track their hours for school requirements, scholarship applications and college admissions. x2VOL is an online system available anywhere, anytime. There is also an app for the iPhone® and for Android™ devices.
x2VOL eliminated the old paper-based system bogging down schools like St. Agnes. “We have always been a technologically progressive school but we were stuck in a manual system that was cumbersome and time-consuming,” said Gretchen Kirk, director of religious education at St. Agnes Academy. “x2VOL moved our service program into alignment with the rest of our technology culture.”
At St. Agnes, the time savings are noticeable. Now teachers can guide their students’ spiritual growth and education rather than push paperwork around. “Now it takes me about two hours to review and approve the entire freshman class submissions,” says sixteen-year veteran teacher, Mary Miller. “That is 96 students, done in two hours. Not two weeks.”
Many private, faith-based schools have the most ambitious community service programs but public schools are getting more involved in service learning. x2VOL is used in public and in private schools. “There are private schools and public schools with robust community service programs. While the driving force behind these initiatives differs, the elements of good administration still apply,” says Michele Pitman, intelliVOL CEO. “x2VOL is the only system created from the ground up to drastically reduce the administrative burden in managing tens of thousands of hours and hundreds of students.”
St. Agnes Academy has been recognized with the prestigious Jefferson Award Gold Banner for leadership in community service. St Agnes has been at the heart of Catholic education in Memphis since 1851. Today the school is nationally recognized for many things including being a model 21st Century School.
