“We think as a law firm we should offer comprehensive services to our clients. Nowhere is this more critical than in elder law,” said Virginia Hammerle, founding member at Hammerle Finley Law Firm. “We are often called by families in crisis – an elder member has suffered a stroke, a nursing home is threatening to discharge a patient over family objections, or a family member’s mental illness has reached a critical threshold. Having an in-house Geriatric Care Manager will allow us to address all elder care issues, in concert with appropriate legal needs.”
Professional geriatric care management is a holistic, client-centered approach to caring for older adults or disabled persons. The goal is to improve the client’s quality of life and reduce family stress through: assessment and monitoring; planning and problem-solving; education and advocacy; and family caregiver coaching. Willis will help clients in a variety of areas, including: housing; home care services; medical management; communication; social activities; coordinating with legal matters; financial; federal and state entitlements; and safety and security issues.
“Having a single resource for people to ask elder law questions will be a huge relief to many families facing hard decisions,” stated Willis. “I was raised by my grandparents and I understand the issues that an aging community will or is currently facing. This position validates Hammerle Finley Law Firm’s commitment to its elder law practice group, as they are one of the only firms in Texas with a full-time Geriatric Care Manager on staff.”
As a Texas Certified Guardian with more than 37 years of multi-dimensional experience in the health care industry, Willis understands every aspect of hospital and ancillary facilities, Medicare and Medicaid rules and regulations, as well as national, state and political influences on the industry.
Prior to joining the firm, Willis worked for Mental Health Mental Retardation of Tarrant County (MHMRTC), Global Mortuary Services, Personalized Home Services, Lexington Place Assisted Living, Medica Rents Company, Grand Court Assisted Living, Long-Term Care Insurance Sales, Dawn Assisted Living, Zale Lipshy Hospital, HCA Richland Hospital, Irving Community Hospital and Stevens Park Osteopathic Hospital.
Willis earned his bachelor of science degree in Gerontology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
