HARTFORD, Wis.--(API Healthcare, the leader in healthcare-specific workforce management technology, today announced it is redefining workforce technology in the healthcare industry. Through the Healthcare Workforce Information Exchange (HwIE), healthcare leaders can leverage the vast amounts of valuable employee-related data about individual healthcare workers and the entire labor pool to make proactive, evidence-based workforce management decisions. With better optimization of the workforce throughout the entire continuum of care, patients will benefit from greater consistency in care while healthcare organizations realize improved staff engagement and a reduction in labor costs.)--
“In this era of healthcare reform, the shift toward a pay-for-performance care model has created a new set of challenges for healthcare providers”
The Healthcare Workforce Information Exchange (HwIE) facilitates the sharing of data between healthcare facilities, similar to the Health Information Exchange (HIE). However, rather than exchanging only clinical Electronic Health Record (EHR) information, the HwIE shares workforce data from an Electronic Employee Record (EER). This unprecedented data exchange delivers effective talent development and utilization across the entire care continuum, including hospitals and clinics, long-term care facilities and home health agencies.
“The Healthcare Workforce Information Exchange is incredibly valuable to us as a large health system with more than 250 sites of care spanning the entire continuum,” said Jacob Krive, project manager, information systems, Advocate Health Care. “As we continue to increase our facility count, API Healthcare’s technology will allow us to ensure our workforce solution is scalable across the entire organization. This will help us meet the needs of our community by providing high quality, cost-effective care while also helping us meet the financial needs of the organization by controlling labor costs.”
“In this era of healthcare reform, the shift toward a pay-for-performance care model has created a new set of challenges for healthcare providers,” said J.P. Fingado, president and chief executive officer, API Healthcare. “An aging population cared for by an aging healthcare workforce compounds those challenges. The HwIE provides a broader approach to address those evolving needs. By focusing on the strategic development and deployment of human resources, hospitals and other care providers will be in a better long-term position to keep costs under control, even while demand for services increases and healthcare delivery models are adjusted.”
The HwIE gives healthcare executives a forward thinking way of sharing, analyzing and leveraging employee information, resulting in proactive decisions that maximize an organization’s talent. The HwIE allows hospitals to:
- Elevate productivity
- Engage employees
- Control overtime
- Ensure compliance
- Increase staff retention
- Streamline recruiting
- Manage staff competencies
“The Healthcare Workforce Information Exchange provides our organization with the solutions we need to optimize our workforce,” explained Deb Gogliettino, senior vice president of human resources and chief human resources officer, Eastern Connecticut Health Network, Inc. “API Healthcare is executing on their vision to deliver technology that provides comprehensive information about our staff to allow us to maximize the use of our talent pool, enabling us to match the right caregivers with each patient across all of our facilities.”
