ATLANTA & NEW ORLEANS--()--LexisNexis® Risk Solutions today announced that the company will participate in HIMSS 2013, focusing on how identity management tools can help to detect and prevent fraud, waste and abuse in government and private sector health care programs, and assist hospitals and provider networks in better understanding and serving patients.
“By determining: ‘Are you who you say you are?’ and using identity management tools to assess ‘What do I need to know about you?’ payers and providers can authenticate identities and know they are providing the right services to the right people.”
In February, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) issued its annual list of “High Risk” government programs, and its report noted that the Medicaid program allocated improper payments to 7.1 percent of its providers, costing the federal government $19.2 billion. Similarly, GAO noted that the Medicare program was included as high risk this year in part because improper payments were estimated to be more than $44 billion in 2012.
In Booth #3557, LexisNexis will highlight how its identity management solutions assist with improper payments by addressing the patient’s, provider’s or claimant’s identity up front. LexisNexis health care experts will also discuss how government payers, commercial payers and providers can improve patient and provider enrollment, reduce their exposure to fraud, and ensure that only authorized users gain access to personal health information and programs.
LexisNexis is hosting a public policy leaders networking breakfast at the conference on Tuesday, March 5, featuring opening remarks by Bruce D. Greenstein, Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.

“In many cases, the payer or provider processing the information is relying on what is reported by an individual accessing the health care system at any point-of-care whether at registration or claims,” said Clint Fuhrman, National Director, Government Health Care Programs, LexisNexis. “By determining: ‘Are you who you say you are?’ and using identity management tools to assess ‘What do I need to know about you?’ payers and providers can authenticate identities and know they are providing the right services to the right people.”
