Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center Purchases Carestream Digital Radiology Systems to Streamline Workflow

Joint Project with Captive Radiology, Centura X-Ray Designed to Improve Care at the Center’s Hospital and 12 Clinic Locations

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center (CCOC), a partnership with Summa Health System (Akron, Ohio), purchased a CARESTREAM Vue PACS and 14 Carestream and Quantum DR systems to streamline workflow and help its 34 orthopaedic and two plastic surgeons enhance patient care.

Crystal Clinic physicians perform over 16,000 inpatient and outpatient surgeries and conduct more than 60,000 medical imaging exams a year. They have 12 clinics in the greater Akron area that receive more than 105,000 clinic visits per year.

“We selected Carestream’s Vue PACS because it offers exceptional functionality including surgical templating and 3D imaging. Vue PACS also allows us to use our existing digital dictation system and most importantly, Carestream’s Vue Connect interfaces with several different PACS systems including a competitive system from our partner. This allows for the exchange of prior patient images,” said Gregg Zolton, Chief Information Officer, Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center.

He added that Carestream’s Vue PACS will deliver native tools to enhance user efficiency and will allow physicians to view images and reports captured at multiple locations. “We also selected the company’s digital radiography systems to meet the needs of each clinical location,” Zolton noted.

Digital Imaging Systems Address Needs of Each Location

As part of a joint project involving Captive Radiology (Canton, Ohio) and Centura X-Ray (Cleveland, Ohio), Crystal Clinic Orthopedic Center purchased the following Carestream and Quantum digital imaging systems: three CARESTREAM DRX-Evolution Systems, three CARESTREAM DRX-1 Systems, two CARESTREAM DRX-Ascend Systems and six Quantum Q-Rad Digital DRX systems that feature full console/generator integration. Carestream worked with Centura X-ray on the purchase of digital imaging systems and Captive Radiology handled project management, including preparation of multiple sites, scheduling and installation of these systems.

“Carestream’s flexible digital radiography portfolio allowed us to select systems that address the imaging needs of each of our locations, which contain a variety of old and new X-ray equipment,” Zolton said. “Centers with newer X-ray equipment retrofitted existing rooms with DRX-1 detectors. We replaced older equipment at some medium-volume facilities and installed highly productive DRX-Evolution systems at selected high-volume locations.”

He noted that Carestream’s DRX systems deliver a common user interface across all of CCOC’s outpatient centers, which greatly improves productivity and efficiency. “Our physicians and technologists rotate through many different locations and having a common interface allowed us to reduce our training time and reallocate resources without impacting workflow.”

Prior to this purchase, Crystal Clinic physicians had a very limited PACS platform and used a combination of MRI, CR systems and film.
