Workshare Enhances User R&D and Aids Developing Countries Through charity: water Collaboration

Collaboration Initiative Enables Local Communities to Build and Manage Sustainable, Clean Drinking Sources

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Workshare, the leader of secure enterprise collaboration applications, today announced its collaboration with charity: water to address one of the key problems facing developing countries: a lack of clean, safe drinking water. The initiative is part of Workshare’s user research and development drive and also addresses its corporate social responsibilities.

According to the World Health Organization, diseases from unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Women and children usually bear the burden of water collection, walking miles to the nearest source, which is unprotected and likely to make them sick. Time spent walking and resulting diseases keep them from going to school, working, and taking care of their families. In Africa alone, women spend 40 billion hours each year collecting water. Workshare is committed to supporting the fight against these issues while also advancing its goal to build software that changes the way employees collaborate in today’s enterprise.

As part of this initiative, Workshare will donate $200 for each person that participates in a one-on-one observation and interview session, which anyone – whether or not they are using Workshare’s applications – can register for today. One hundred percent of Workshare’s donations will go to funding a community in need; this includes constructing the water project and providing local villages with the tools needed to create sustainable access to clean water by way of repair, management, and sanitization training. Workshare plans to expand the project across several other developing countries.

With just 50 participants, Workshare will donate sufficient funds to build one water project that can support 250 people with clean water and save 6,000 hours in water collection per week. The company aims to fund one water project by the end of May 2013.
