SAN FRANCISCO--()--Most who have visited a McDonald’s restaurant or drive-thru will recognize the Ronald McDonald House Charities® donation canisters that collect contributions to the local chapters of the charity, but what guests to Greater Bay Area restaurants may not know is that in 2012, 54 local McDonald’s owners established their own year-round donation program to support expansions to the Ronald McDonald Houses of San Francisco and at Stanford. That donation amounted to more than $440,000. When combined with funds raised through other promotions such as the Egg Nog and Shamrock Shakes, local McDonald’s owners contributed more than $565,000 in total and roughly $283,000 per House. This exceeds the 2012 goal of $500,000 established to help meet the ultimate goal of raising $2 million over three years to support each House expansion.
“Right now the Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco features 10 rooms”
Ronald McDonald Houses provide a home-away-from home for families of seriously ill children who are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. In addition, the Houses offer a community of support ensuring that families far from home have the resources they need in order to focus on their number one priority—healing their sick child.
“We are able to assist families in their greatest time of need with the financial and in-kind support of generous individuals, groups, business and corporations in our community,” said Annette Eros, chief executive officer of the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford. “We are thankful to have a life-long partnership with local McDonald’s owners, who are so invested in the services we offer our families.”
“Right now the Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco features 10 rooms,” said Lois Moore, Executive Director of the Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco. “The generous donations from the local McDonald’s owners will allow us to expand the House to be able to serve even more families in need.”
