Red Bend and Sony Mobile Extend Agreement for Over-the-Air Mobile Software

WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Red Bend Software, the market leader in Mobile Software Management (MSM) with more than 1.6 billion Red Bend-Enabled™ devices, today announced that it has extended its multi-year global license agreement with Sony Mobile Communications to provide firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updating for Sony Mobile’s popular Xperia™ portfolio of products.

Under the agreement, Red Bend’s vRapid Mobile® for fast and fail-safe FOTA updating will be integrated into Sony Mobile’s Android smartphones and tablets. Since 2004, Red Bend has provided Sony Mobile with vRapid Mobile for remote software updating and vDirect Mobile® for standards-based configuration and device management in more than 140 Sony Mobile-branded devices.

Several innovative technologies are at the core of Red Bend’s vRapid Mobile enabling customers to improve user satisfaction through:

• Fastest and least expensive download of FOTA updates based on patented delta-update technology
• Minimal memory requirements needed to resolve complex “write before read” issues so that firmware can be updated without additional costly memory, based on Red Bend’s patented exe.diff and “in place” technologies—ensuring the fastest updates in the industry
• Updating firmware in the background while the mobile device is fully operational, enabling consumers to talk, text and play without disruption while getting the newest firmware version
• Installation of all major OS updates and applications on deployed devices, even if the system partition is not large enough, based on patented repartitioning technology
