SAN FRANCISCO--()--It’s time to wake up, America; we are facing a retirement crisis.
“Individuals are on the front lines of this crisis – workers from every walk of life and at all ages are a crucial part of this conversation as we take it directly to the policymakers and influencers in Washington and elsewhere. The clock is ticking – join the movement!”
Did you know that according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute almost half of all Americans have less than $10,000 saved for retirement? Did you know that a Wells Fargo study reported that 74 percent of American workers expect to keep working after they hit the age of retirement eligibility? And finally, did you know that Americans are expected to be $6.6 trillion short of what they need to retire according to the Boston College Center for Retirement Research?
These stark and scary facts are a wake-up call. This is everyone’s retirement crisis, and now is the time to take action and not just leave our “golden years” to chance.
Wondering what is leading us to a crisis? In the experience of Chad Parks, Executive Producer of the retirement-focused documentary Broken Eggs Film: The Looming Retirement Crisis in America, it’s the broken promises of the so-called three-legged stool of retirement.
- Pension plans are going by the wayside, bankrupting companies and municipalities.
- Social Security will be insolvent in 20 years if nothing is done to fix it today.
- Personal savings are woefully pitiful.
It is these three legs that the film explores in depth, along with the deeply personal stories of Americans across the country. The startling reality they encountered led the Broken Eggs Film team to create three “Take Action” features on the film’s website. Designed to create a two-way conversation, the Broken Eggs Film site enables individuals to become advocates for fixing this looming retirement crisis.
Through the film’s website, advocates can now:
- Tell their story. Each of us has a personal story that, when magnified together, can make a difference. Now you can share your story by recording a video straight to the Broken Eggs Film site or by submitting a YouTube link.
- Engage influencers. Send a letter directly to your Representatives and Senators in one simple step.
- Join fellow advocates. Add your name to the website’s United Map of Advocates to see who else is taking a stand against the retirement crisis.
Advocates who complete all three steps will then have the opportunity to be included in the credits of the documentary, which tells the story of the dismal state of retirement today. To join the conversation and become an advocate, visit www.brokeneggsfilm.com/take-action/.
“In order to combat the looming retirement crisis, everyone’s voice, opinion and concerns need to be heard and magnified,” says Parks, who is also founder of The Online 401(k). “Individuals are on the front lines of this crisis – workers from every walk of life and at all ages are a crucial part of this conversation as we take it directly to the policymakers and influencers in Washington and elsewhere. The clock is ticking – join the movement!”
