While our goal at EON: Enhanced Online News is to help get your press release found, seen and shared, much of the effectiveness of your press release depends on how and what you write. Review the following guidelines to help your press release get maximum online visibility and traction.
Make News. Search engines and people seek recent, relevant content-in short, "news," not "olds." Find a timely angle and announce a new product, service or personnel change, state a competitive advantage or development in your business, or provide how-to information, tips and tools for your customers. News takes many forms, but its common denominators are recentness and relevance.
Don't Recycle an Ad. Repurposing advertising content with too much hype and little substance won't help with search engines or people. Your bias will show through and is likely to come back to haunt you. Result? No traction. Strive to provide useful content that serves the reader.
Make Sure Your Links Work. Active, working hyperlinks help readers and robots find what they're seeking. Double check your copy to make sure the URLs you plugged in redirect to functioning pages and don't stuff your press release with unnecessary links.
Provide Contact Info. Keep your press release content legit by providing a valid, working email address and/or phone number. If you don't want to be associated with your own press release, why would your reader?
Don't Break the Law. Respect copyright and other laws. Don't include content that is libelous or otherwise actionable.
Don't Trade on Others' Names. Attention-grabbing tricks like inserting ticker symbols, trademarks, and famous companies' or people's names in your press releases when they have no relevance to the content will not be tolerated.
Keep it Clean. Sexually explicit or pornographic copy or links don't belong on EON: Enhanced Online News.
While our goal is to help your press release thrive online, EON: Enhanced Online News reserves the right to reject copy deemed inappropriate.
