Crosslink Makes the Top Five “Hot Talks/Cool Papers” List At Materials Research Society Fall Meeting

ST. LOUIS--(EON:Enhanced Online News)--Crosslink (www.crosslinkusa.com), a leader in electroactive polymer materials, authored a presentation on its SuperFlex™ flexible lighting solution that was selected this week as one of the top five “Hot Talks/Cool Papers” at the Materials Research Society (MRS) 2006 Fall Meeting.

SuperFlex is a crushable, durable, lightweight electroluminescent (EL) technology based on polythiophene, an inherently conductive polymer known as PEDOT. It can be formulated to emit light in both the visible and near-infrared (NIR) spectrums.

Currently under development with the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research Development and Engineering Center for use in softwall shelters, the technology is suitable for integration with a variety of materials. Textiles, composites, plastics and metals all can be coated with SuperFlex, signaling a step-change approach to light sources.

For the softwall military shelters, such as chemical biological protective shelters (CBPS), thin Crosslink SuperFlex panels are permanently or semi-permanently attached to the tent interior. They produce white light when powered by a standard AC source. The lighting can be collapsed and packed with the shelter, eliminating additional setup and teardown troops must currently perform with fluorescent lights, which present many hazards.

Crosslink Chief Technology Officer Patrick Kinlen, Ph.D. led the team of scientists who developed SuperFlex, which includes Eric Bruton, Ph.D., who presented at MRS, and Mauricio Pinto, Ph.D.
