MIAMI--()--Univision Communications Inc. and The Associated Press today revealed the results of the most comprehensive Hispanic poll conducted to-date on immigration and the recently passed Arizona SB1070 law, among other topics of importance. Some of the study’s key findings include Hispanics’ stance on the controversial Arizona law, with 67% of respondents opposed, while 86% favor providing a legal path for undocumented immigrants already in the United States to become U.S. citizens. On the other hand, the poll results demonstrate Hispanics are divided on the government’s measures to keep immigrants from entering the U.S. illegally, with 52% of them believing the government should be doing more on this front. The poll results were presented today during the network’s broadcast of “Noticiero Univision” (Univision Network News). Tonight’s edition of “Última Hora” (Late News) at 11:30pm ET/PT (10:30pm Central) will also have details on the poll results. Tomorrow both newscasts will also highlight the information at 6:30pm ET/PT (5:30pm Central) and 11:30pm ET/PT (10:30pm Central).

- 73% think it should be a minor offense, rather than a serious criminal offense, to enter and remain in the United States without proper documentation
- 61% of respondents feel they have personally been victims of discrimination because of their ethnicity
- Enforcement of Arizona SB1070 Law
- 73% of Hispanics think that police crackdowns on undocumented immigrants unfairly target Hispanics
- 66% think the Arizona law goes too far in dealing with the issue of undocumented immigrants
- 84% also think it is very likely that the police in Arizona will wind up stopping and questioning Hispanics who are U.S. citizens or legal immigrants as the law is enforced
- Only 27% think it is extremely likely or very likely that the new law in Arizona will significantly reduce that state’s problem with illegal immigration
The AP-Univision Poll was conducted from May 7 to the 12th by GFK Roper Public Affairs and Media. It involved landline and cell phone interviews with 901 Hispanic adults and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 5.3 percentage points.
