Education Industry Association Wins ASAEs 2008 Associations Advance America Award of Excellence

WASHINGTON (Business Wire EON) April 15, 2008 -- The Education Industry Association (http://www.educationindustry.org) has won the Award of Excellence in the 2008 Associations Advance America (AAA) Awards program, a national competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) & The Center for Association Leadership.

EIA is honored to receive this ASAE award, but we are prouder still of our member companies, which every day, in hundreds of communities nationwide, deliver high-quality tutoring services to thousands of low-income children eligible for SES services
EIA received the award for its development and promotion of the Code of Ethics for SES Providers, which has helped guide the conduct and operations of tutoring organizations that provide supplemental education services (SES) under the No Child Left Behind law. EIAs was one of just nine association programs recognized from a field of 100 nominations. The EIA Code of Ethics for SES Providers is now in the running to receive a Summit Award, ASAE & The Centers top recognition for association programs.

News Image EIA is honored to receive this ASAE award, but we are prouder still of our member companies, which every day, in hundreds of communities nationwide, deliver high-quality tutoring services to thousands of low-income children eligible for SES services, said EIA Board of Directors Chair Dr. Deborah M. McGriff, an executive vice president with Edison Schools. EIA members are also committed to high standards of business ethics and program quality, and this award recognizes that commitment.

The EIA Code of Ethics for SES Providers was completed and approved by the EIA Board of Directors in late 2005, and formally introduced during a February, 2006 Capitol Hill briefing hosted by EIA. Since that time, the Code has:

  • Drawn public commitments/affirmations from 26 SES provider members
  • Been used by 14 states, including CT, FL, DE, IL, OH, PA, MD, NC, NM, NJ, NY, MA, TN, and VA, as part of their criteria to approve SES providers.
  • Received significant news media inquiries and coverage.
  • Was revised and strengthened in January, 2008 to account for changes in the implementation of SES nationwide

The EIA Code of Ethics for SES Providers is important work, and our members deserve praise along with EIA for serving their students in the most proper way possible. Our members commitment to them is to continue to enhance the quality and integrity of our services, added EIA Executive Director Steven Pines.

Now in its 18th year, the prestigious Associations Advance America (AAA) Awards program recognizes associations that propel America forwardwith innovative projects in education, skills training, standards-setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship, and community service. Although association activities have a powerful impact on everyday life, they often go unnoticed by the general public.

EIAs program truly embodies the spirit of the Associations Advance America campaign. It is an honor and an inspiration to showcase this activity as an example of the many contributions associations are making to advance American society, remarked 2007-2008 Associations Advance America (AAA) Committee Chair Matthew DUva, CAE, president of SOCAP International.
