National Survey Reveals Importance of Goal Setting in Order to
Achieve Dreams
Mapping a Successful Career Path by Goal Setting
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Business Wire EON) April 8, 2008 --
Only 12 percent of 18-33 year olds with higher education experience feel
they are successful and living their dream, according to a recent study
sponsored by Stowers
Innovations, Inc. The YesYouCan
Survey™ found 76 percent of parents and
grandparents of 18-33 year olds also feel their goals have not been
realized.
While most of the 2,000 survey participants did not feel they’d
achieved their dreams, they did recognize goal setting was an important
step in the career path. In fact, 92 percent of survey respondents
agreed they must set goals in order to achieve their dreams. Success
tips can help them set achievable goals.
In their new book, Yes,
You Can… Reach Your Goals and Achieve Your
Dreams, award-winning authors Jim
Stowers and Jack Jonathan show people of all ages who are entering
the job market how to chart a path to success and give tips for goal
setting. The following success tips offer a practical roadmap to goal
setting, including both career path and personal goals.
Start With a Positive Attitude. Hope, optimism and enthusiasm
have a magical effect on goal setting and the way you think.
Understand Yourself. To appropriately practice goal setting and
take better advantage of life’s opportunities,
first look within yourself and focus on qualities you want to improve.
Understand Others. Developing the ability to understand others is
important for a successful life and for achieving dreams. Gain insights
by taking time to observe others with an open heart and mind.
Create a Good First Impression. Remember to dress for success,
correct any bad habits and improve your manners. Treating others with
respect is essential to achieving your dreams.
Reach Out to Others. Practice conveying sincerity to others
through your actions, such as radiating a sincere smile and practicing a
sincere handshake as you embark on your career path.
Cultivate Friendships. Get out where you can meet people and
further your career path. Adopt the attitude that everyone you encounter
is a friend, and learn how to break the ice and keep a conversation
going.
Communicate Effectively with People. What you say and how you say
it are both important. Learn the art of skillfully asking questions to
achieve the result you want.
Understand the Value of Time. Time is your most important asset,
especially when it comes to goal setting and achieving dreams. Consider
writing down your use of time for 24 hours, categorize your activities
and then evaluate if you’re getting the most
value for those hours spent.
