Severe Storm Causes 180,000 Power Outages for Oncor

Dallas-Fort Worth area hardest hit

DALLAS (Business Wire EON) April 10, 2008 -- A major storm hit Oncors service area last night and early this morning, leaving downed power lines and power outages in its wake. At the height of the storm, Oncor had approximately 250,000 outages.

With a storm of this magnitude, outages are unavoidable
Currently, Oncor has approximately 180,000 power outages across its service area. The majority 160,000 of them are in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. While many areas have been hit with severe weather and outages, the city of Breckenridge, Texas, located approximately 80 miles west of Fort Worth, has had significant damage.

Major electric lines and equipment serving Breckenridge have been damaged, causing widespread outages in the city. More than half of the city of Breckenridge has now been restored through switching of power to alternate lines. Oncor expects to have those homes and businesses that can take power restored mid to late afternoon. Construction crews are on the scene, working to restore power.

Oncor has crews and contractors working throughout its service area to restore power.

With a storm of this magnitude, outages are unavoidable, said Rob Trimble, President and COO of Oncor. Our crews are working as quickly as possible to restore power, but the priority in this situation is safety for both our crews and the people we serve.

Trimble said if anyone spots a downed power line, he or she should leave the area and call 9-1-1. Going near a downed power line is extremely dangerous.

At the moment, Oncor is assessing damage to its system. Although progress has been made, it is too early for Oncor to give an estimate of when all of the power will be restored.

Oncor is a regulated electric distribution and transmission business that uses superior asset management skills to provide reliable electricity delivery to consumers. Oncor operates the largest distribution and transmission system in Texas, providing power to 3 million electric delivery points over more than 102,000 miles of distribution and 14,000 miles of transmission lines. While Oncor is a subsidiary of EFH, Oncor is a separate entity that reports to a separate board that is comprised of a majority of independent directors.
