LineSider Technologies to Deliver Policy-Driven Network Virtualization for Cisco Products

OverDrive Version 2.5 Gives Cisco Router and Switch Users Top-Down Policy Control for Ease of Network Deployment and Management

DANVERS, Mass. (Business Wire EON) April 10, 2008 -- LineSider Technologies, the leading provider of policy-driven network infrastructure control and management software, today announced the upcoming release of OverDrive Version 2.5, a network infrastructure control and management solution that extends fully automated policy-driven control to devices from Cisco Systems Inc. This OverDrive solution will be commercially available in May 2008 and will support Ciscos Integrated Services Router (ISR) line routers and selected devices within the Catalyst switch family.

With OverDrive 2.5, network managers now have a solution to cost-effectively control and manage their network environment using persisted policies that maintain the relationship between resources and automatically adjusting the underlying network configurations in response to users, resources or applications that are constantly moving in network.
Enterprises of all sizes are struggling with the complexity and cost of daily network operations and management. Compounding this problem is the trend towards moving applications from the data center onto the network itself, said Scott Scherer, an analyst at In-Stat As device manufacturers, like Cisco, embrace this trend, enterprises are going to have to find new solutions for automating processes, which will in turn help them control costs and lessen the burden on already overtaxed IT resources.

News Image LineSiders OverDrive is designed specifically with these enterprise needs in mind. It enables IT departments work smarter and more efficiently, reducing traditional network operational support costs by as much as 80 percent in some cases.

As users, resources and applications continue to become more virtual and transient within the network, the cost and effort to maintain the underlying network services and configurations to support these dynamic resources will only continue to rise, said Ken Ferderer, LineSiders CTO. With OverDrive 2.5, network managers now have a solution to cost-effectively control and manage their network environment using persisted policies that maintain the relationship between resources and automatically adjusting the underlying network configurations in response to users, resources or applications that are constantly moving in network.

Unlike other network configuration and management tools available today that simply define configuration templates, OverDrive uses automated policies to define the relationship between the users, applications and resources that reside on the network. At the same time, it initiates and controls all the underlying network services and device-level configurations in order to support and maintain that defined relationship.

Because OverDrive tightly integrates with Microsofts Active Directory, the underlying network is appropriately adjusted when changes are made to user objects, ensuring that all defined relationships are consistently maintained. The same is true for changes that happen at the application level. For environments such as VMware, in which virtual applications can be created and easily moved, OverDrive can automatically adjust the underlying network in order to maintain all network connectivity as defined through policy.

OverDrive also supports business continuity, disaster recovery and compliance reporting. With OverDrive, users are able to define policies for disaster scenarios, enabling reconfiguration of logical network topologies and restoring critical network services in a matter of seconds. OverDrive also maintains the link between the originating business policy and the deployed configuration, which supports compliance reporting for an entire network with a single key stroke.

OverDrive software is available for purchase via a traditional licensing arrangement or in a hosted software-as-a-service (SaaS) model through LineSider or one of its channel partners. These options give both enterprises and managed service providers (MSPs) tremendous flexibility, enabling those that may not have the infrastructure to brand and offer managed services while growing their business. Service providers and MSPs also can purchase OverDrive with the optional MSP module, which allows for the control and management of multiple enterprise network environments through a fully tenanted model with a single instance of the OverDrive system.
