QAS First US Company to Receive Dual Provider Status from CMS for Home-Based VAD Patients

ORLANDO, Fla. (Business Wire EON) April 24, 2007 -- Quality Assured Services, Inc. (QAS) today announced that it has received approved supplier status from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to provide equipment and supplies to patients on a ventricular assist device in a home setting. The equipment and supplies will be provided to these patients after discharge from the hospital.

This dual-provider status gives us a unique ability to provide assistance to both patients and healthcare professionals in the use of the VAD, since some of these devices have a need for anticoagulation therapy
Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) is gaining acceptance as a standard therapy for critically ill patients awaiting heart transplants, as well as for long-term support. In both of these cases, the equipment and supply items from QAS provide patients and their insurance companies with the ability to have this life-sustaining equipment in the home, as opposed to an inpatient hospital bed, thereby improving the quality of life at a much reduced cost.

BWNewsImage521082.jpg Hospitals have shown great interest in the QAS program because they do not have to supply the VAD equipment items to patients going home. By utilizing the QAS program, home-based VAD equipment is provided by QAS to each patient as well as all replacement and supply items, the hospitals inventory of VAD equipment can then be used on new inpatients.

QAS, the largest distributor of anticoagulation testing devices and supplies in the nation, is the only US company to hold a dual CMS provider status in both anticoagulation services and VAD equipment and supplies. This dual-provider status gives us a unique ability to provide assistance to both patients and healthcare professionals in the use of the VAD, since some of these devices have a need for anticoagulation therapy, said Mike Visnich, QAS President and CEO. With our new VADCareTM VAD Program, we can service these patients with both of our core strengths.
