Sun Microsystems Names Mike Splain Executive Vice President of
Microelectronics Group
Splain Brings More Than 25 Years of Extensive Engineering and
Business Leadership Experience to New Role
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Business Wire EON) April 28, 2008 --
Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:JAVA) today announced that it has named
Mike Splain executive vice president of the Microelectronics Group.
Splain will report to CEO and president Jonathan Schwartz and joins the
company’s Executive Leadership Team. A Sun
fellow, Splain is a 20-year Sun veteran with broad management and
technical expertise across microelectronics and systems. In his added
role Splain will lead all aspects of the Microelectronics technology
development and business operations.

In addition to his new role, Splain is a Sun fellow, serves as Sun’s
chief engineer and as CTO for the Systems Group. Over the course of his
career at Sun, Splain has been a Sun fellow and CTO for the Processor
and Network Products, Microelectronics and Scalable Systems groups and
held a number of management positions including head of development for
the MAJC architecture and microprocessors. Prior to joining Sun Splain
was a member of the technical staff at Ridge Computers, Vitesse
Semiconductor, Encore Computer and Digital Equipment Corporation where
he served in a variety of positions related to the development of
microprocessors and high-end computer systems.
Splain holds a bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering and
Computer Science from the University of Connecticut.
