ViaSat LinkStarS2A VSAT System Proves More Bandwidth Efficient With ACM and New ViaSat Technologies

Only ViaSat Offers DLA and AcceleNet® That Enable Performance beyond Industry Standards

CARLSBAD, Calif. (Business Wire EON) April 28, 2008 -- ViaSat Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT) is shipping its new LinkStar® VSAT system with bandwidth-efficient Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM), and is implementing additional bandwidth-saving technologies that go beyond the industry standard. Only ViaSat offers Dynamic Link Adaptation (DLA) and AcceleNet® IP network and application acceleration. LinkStarS2A terminals are already installed and operating in South America, Europe, Africa, the U.S., Australia, and all regions of Asia.

The LinkStarS2A system improves network performance and cuts satellite networking costs with ACM. The ACM feature reduces satellite bandwidth requirements by up to 63% for the downstream (hub to remotes) traffic. The DLA feature can reduce required bandwidth by up to 18% for the upstream traffic, benefiting a large set of applications that use flexible return link bandwidth allocations ranging from Bandwidth on Demand (BoD) to guaranteed transfer rates and IP Quality of Service (QoS). System download speeds of up to 126 Mbps from the hub to remotes and remote terminal upload rates up to 4.2 Mbps enable remote sites to be server locations, content providers, multimedia sources, video teleconferencing participants, and corporate headquarters.

News Image Another ViaSat advantage is AcceleNet WAN optimization software that accelerates LinkStar VSAT link and application performance beyond other DVB-S2 ACM systems. AcceleNet client software is servicing millions of users worldwide with patented compression technology and application accelerators for the most commonly used software. The end result is on-the-fly adjustments that maximize bandwidth savings and wide area network performance for remote and mobile customers.

Together with ACM and the AcceleNet software client, a comprehensive set of LinkStarS2A VSAT features enables better performance for both enterprise networks and service providers:

  • ViaSat-exclusive Dynamic Link Adaptation (DLA) to provide operators even more improvements in performance reliability when satellite signal strength degrades
  • SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) security for Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)
  • Virtual Network Operator (VNO) and traffic performance reporting tools for providing many virtual networks from a single shared hub.

Contact your regional ViaSat office for more information or a LinkStarS2A VSAT system quote.
