Sanbolic’s Cluster File System Enhances Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2007
Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2007 and Sanbolic’s Melio Clustered File System add important new management and migration capability to Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2
WATERTOWN, Mass.--(EON:Enhanced Online News)--Sanbolic, Inc., a leading developer of software to simplify and share SAN storage, today announced support for Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2007. Virtual Machine Manager provides a comprehensive management solution for the virtualized data center that enables increased physical server utilization and centralized management of virtual machine infrastructure. Sanbolic has worked with Microsoft to enable virtual machine images stored on a shared Melio FS volume to be managed through the Virtual Machine Manager console. By using Sanbolic’s Melio Clustered File System and LaScala Volume Manager with SCVMM and Microsoft Virtual Server 2005, customers can simplify both the storage management for virtual machine images as well as the migration of virtual machines. Using Melio FS a virtual machine can be migrated across physical hosts in less than 30 seconds.
“Sanbolic’s Melio FS extends our solution for managing large virtual machine deployments.”
Melio FS is a clustered file system that allows multiple servers to have concurrent access to data on a SAN. LaScala is a clustered volume manager that can centrally manage the logical volume configuration and assignment for physical and virtual servers. Sanbolic’s software allows users to store all virtual machine images on a shared SAN storage LUN which is accessible to all physical hosts. There is no need to create a separate LUN for each virtual machine, and no need to copy files or remap the storage connection when migrating a virtual machine between physical hosts. Virtual machines can be centrally backed up from the shared LUN. Sanbolic’s clustered file system works seamlessly with VMM, providing additional functionality for Microsoft’s distributed virtualization solutions.
“System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2007 provides customers with new capability to provision, monitor, and manage virtual machines while using a familiar System Center Console,” said David Greschler, director of System Center marketing at Microsoft Corp. “Sanbolic’s Melio FS extends our solution for managing large virtual machine deployments.”
Sanbolic software currently supports Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003 R2 and Windows Server 2008 Beta 3. Sanbolic distributes its product solutions worldwide through a network of distributors, OEMs, VARs and system integrators.
Sanbolic will be exhibiting this solution at the Microsoft System Center Pavilion, Stand Number 3 at TechEd IT Forum - 12-16 November 2007, Barcelona, Spain.
