Welcome

Finally, some straight talk about hormones from Dr. Vliet

Womens health physician takes to cyber airwaves with talk show to clear up myths and misinformation

DALLAS--(EON:Enhanced Online News)--Elizabeth Lee Vliet M.D. continues her national campaign for Straight Truth About Hormones with a weekly interactive program on Blog Talk Radio beginning Nov. 12.

“Screaming to Be Heard: Hormone Connections Women Suspect and Doctors Ignore”

Dr. Vliet, who gained national attention with her provocative and well-documented consumer books on womens hormones and overlooked health connections, will host the Savvy Womans Health Guide live call-in series, Straight Talk About Hormones, to air every Monday at 9 p.m. Eastern time.

Women still are not getting accurate, balanced information on real benefits of hormone options that are being presented in the international menopause conferences. Women in the United States dont know about safer options that European women have had for decades, said Vliet, winner of the Arizona Foundation for Womens 2007 Voice of Women award and founder of HER Place, a medical practice in Dallas and Tucson devoted to helping women with hormone-related health problems.

Straight Talk will work just like the talk shows on broadcast radio, only this one will be heard on the Web. Dr. Vliet plans an opening monologue and guest interviews, then opens up the phones for questions from listeners. Women may also submit questions for upcoming shows via Dr. Vliets website, www.herplace.com.

The shows URL is www.blogtalkradio.com/drvliet. Listeners who miss a live show will be able to hear it later in archived form, or may subscribe to a podcast version.

Dr. Vliet author of Screaming to Be Heard: Hormone Connections Women Suspect and Doctors Ignore, Women, Weight and Hormones, Its My Ovaries, Stupid! and the Savvy Womans Guide series is no stranger to media exposure, having appeared in the Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, CNN radio, and many other national and local media outlets over the years. Shes excited about the opportunity her new show provides to explore hormone health in detail.

The radio talk-show format is the perfect medium for an ongoing discussion like this, Vliet said. Well have plenty of time to explore womens real concerns and give these issues the serious consideration they deserve, not just another quick sound bite leading to more confusion or fear.

Dr. Vliet launched the Straight Truth About Hormones Foundation and educational campaign in April after the National Institutes of Health announcement reversed some of the more alarming findings in its 2002 Womens Health Initiative (WHI) study. Vliet had contended all along that the WHI study was seriously flawed, based on types of hormones not made by the human body. Dr. Vliet recommends use of FDA-approved bioidentical hormones over more commonly used, horse-derived estrogens that were studied in WHI.

Further impetus for Dr. Vliets educational campaign came when the ESTHER study from France reported that bioidentical estradiol gels and patches were safer than the horse-derived pills of estrogen more commonly prescribed for American women.

This program is an educational outreach activity supported by two private foundations, Hormone Education and Research, Inc. and Straight Truth About Hormones, Inc.
